Let's look at 52 Quarters of PLUS Loan Origination Data!

First, some quick observations:

• PLUS Loan Originations, when adjusted for inflation, peaked in 2016, and plummeted during Covid, falling 19.8% in 2020.
• The leaderboard, in terms of PLUS loan originations, shows many of the same universities at the top over 14 years.
• This is echoed by the latest College Scorecard, which lists the Total outstanding Parent PLUS Loan balance (variable LPPPLUS_AMT) at the end of FY2021 for every university.

Concentration:

• The Scorecard shows an outstanding PLUS balance of $97.948Bn (at end of FY2021) spread across 2,467 universities
• The Top-5 originators of PLUS loans represent 5% of all outstanding PLUS loan balances:
  1. Penn State, $1.455Bn of PLUS outstanding (1.49% of all outstanding PLUS balances)
  2. NYU, $1.200Bn of PLUS outstanding (1.23%)
  3. Arizona State University, $951m (0.97%)
  4. University of Alabama, $723m (0.74%)
  5. Savannah College of Art and Design, $643m (0.66%)
